The first inning was a blur for both teams, not even lasting six minutes! However, the second inning the Cubs were relentless and kept that same attitude the rest of the game. Blake pitched a 6-inning shutout, with some great fielding plays by Jacob and many others in the field
Nationals
The Cubs were able to come out Tuesday with a 12-8 win over the Nationals despite a terrible officiated game. The Cubs were red hot the first inning by scoring four runs. However, the Nationals were able to drive the ball to the outfield many times and evened up the score. The second inning showed (I think) what an even game this was, coming out 5-5. It was a very close game until the Cubs were able to get the score to 12 and wouldn't give it up the rest of the game. Compliments for T.J. getting a win his first game, and Phil coming out with a save. Let's get the Reds Friday!

Cubs Win Season Opener 4-2

The Cubs started of the season in fine fashion with a 4-2 victory over the Braves. The Cubs started out the game with 3 quick outs in the first inning. The Cubs had a hot start with the bats having Blake getting a double and Alberto knocking Blake and himself in with a Homerun. That gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead and the Cubs never gave it up. Phillip on the mound had 12 K's in 6 innings pitched. Even though the Cubs only had four runs, they ended innings with lots of runners on base, so hopefully next time we can get those runners home. Overall it was a great game for the undeafeted Raleigh Cubs. All of us here are looking forward to the new draft picks, coaches, and players coming to the Cubs this season. If you haven't looked, our YouTube Channel is on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/raleighcubs
This blog is run by Blake otherwise known as "Mr.Emotion" (as named by Bill McCrorie) or "Webmaster" which I obviously prefer! The first practice dates will be determined, and we hope Coach McCrorie can put together the best recruiting class in the league.
Our goal this year is to of course, build life lasting relationships, and to win our league Championship, and the overall "Raleigh Tounrament" played by the champions of the other leagues in the area.
A news flash that the Nationals, Champions of our League Last Year, also went to the Raleigh Tournament and won the whole thing.
Let's go show them what Cubs are all about!

Cubs End Season With 12-6 Loss To Phillies

The Cubs started out in great fashion in the first two innings, keeping the score close and playing great defense. The second inning would score three runs, wit ha walk from Alex, a Single by Blake and a terrific shot in the outfield for a triple by T.J. The next half inning for the Phillies would tie the game at 3-3. Once again the Cubs struggled with the top of the order, scoring no runs, allowing the Phillies to slightly take the lead. The fourth inning with the middle of the order, was once again a rally for the Cubs, scoring another three runs which put them in the lead 6-5. The Phillies would score 2 runs, putting them in the lead by one. The bats once again would not get around at the top of the order, which led to the last half-inning of the season, where unforced errors in the field and back-to-back homeruns would end the Cubs season on time, 11-6. Game balls were given to T.J. for his great triple, and Smitty for his rocket to the outfield. I'd like to say I had a great time this season, and look forward to playing next year. We'll see these people next year:
Blake
Phillip
Danny
T.J.
Aiden
Jacob
Nick
Alberto. The Cubs got out of the first inning due to the Reds not having a clue of what they were doing by running the basepaths. Hitting led to two force-outs at second base, leaving Coach mad at "Sliding." Pitching picked up, which led to once again no runs. Hitting didn't cash in, which still kept the game close. Once again, the third inning had no runs for the Reds. The top of the order was soon up, to knock in a few runs, and the coach didn't have to throw a ball at anybody. Danny hit a rocket to centerfield, that would result in a close play at the plate, that was barely safe, and a triple. The next batter, Danny stole home due to a beautiful rainbow that the catcher threw to back to the pitcher. The Cubs would only score two more runs the rest of the game, and so would the Reds in the sixth inning. The game ball was given to Blake, for a great 5 inning shutout. Afterward, the Award Ceremony was a bit special. Unfortunately, it didn't really work that way. The game with the Pirates saw the Cubs making too many errors and not enough hits to pull out the victory. However, the entire team agreed that the pool party after the game made the loss easier to deal with.

The Cubs played a hard fought game against the Phillies for the third time this season. With "Uncle Buc" and "Dr Phil" at school, the Cubs picked Danny and Austin from the bullpen to help with the pitching. The Cubs started off the game hot, with five runs in the first inning, including Alex putting one over the fence for a home run. The problem came with the Phillies first at bat, where they scored six runs to get back ahead of the Cubs. The Cubs were chasing the Phillies for the rest of the game, but the Phillies hung on for the win.

The final game of the season saw the Cubs face the Braves. Dr Phil gave a strong peformance on the mound, only giving up one run in six innings. The Cubs took advantage of the Braves several times, including Smitty, who ran to first on a dropped third strike and made it home. The sixth inning saw the Cubs mount another big comeback with a three run inside the park homer by Danny, which drove in Austin and Alberto to bring the score within one. The Cubs face the Reds in the first round of the Playoffs on Monday.....GO CUBS!!!!

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v10.nonxt2.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D1620c07319263d09%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1332346505%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D6F43128E3B4D21EE51438E3BEBF82D2E809B4E27.23BFCF85ACEB1913A296F01067D4BC9796AB1895%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D1620c07319263d09%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3Dx3_qGOBgsRztX3m-nMd793U8oOI&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v1.nonxt5.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D69821c10338f31a9%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1332346505%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D75A4510126995BDF5AA14E4DA4E84E1B550F7D71.3FA7508C8F041255F9F426F0B4038881E19D14B5%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D69821c10338f31a9%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DyEUSUXnJNlwfEZV_GpGAzcrSNzw&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://raleighcubs.blogspot.com/2008/06/pirates-phillies-braves-oh-my.html' title='Pirates, Phillies & The Cubs arrived on the field hoping that the rain would quit. The rain did quit, but the Cubs didn’t. The Marlins came out swinging and built an early lead, at one point leading by 7 runs. In the early innings, the Cubs were hitting, but the Marlins defense was keeping them from getting on base and scoring. However, in typical Cubs fashion, the final two innings resulted in multiple hits, stolen bases and runs. The Cubs took a two run lead at the end of the fifth inning, and didn’t need to play the bottom of the 6th to secure the victory. Big plays included Justin, Alex and Austin with dramatic slides at home plate. The Cubs will try to continue their winning streak this Saturday in a make up game with the Pirates.

Pool Party!

This Saturday after the game against the Pirates, Big Al and Aiden are offering the team to come over for a pool party/cookout at their house. Great hits into the outfield, smart base running, and fielding mostly sums up the 12-7 victory of the Reds. The first inning, a season high eight runs were scored. Danny once again rocketed it to centerfield for a double and to have a run scored. The second, was the quickest inning we've ever had, going three-and-out. The pitching was very good the first few innings, allowing only 2-3 runs. Afterward, the pitching started to slack off a bit. Following that, the bats getting around, has Alberto's screaming line drive to center which also drove some in and ended up as a double. The Cubs ended the game due to overunning time, which gave them the victory. The Cubs are now 3-3 (should be 4-2) and are coming up in the standings. Two steals at third that were safe but called out, and two pop-ups that should've been caught. That sums up the bad things. The good things, were just endless! In the first inning, it was led by Meghan, and Nick. (who were safe at third but called out) Blake started it off getting an easy grounder that would carry him over to second. Next up, Danny, who would knock Blake in. Later in the first, "Austinpowers." The hit started, with a foul ball and miss on a swing. The next time, right at his knees, Austinpowers tucked his right foot and flung his wrists' with all his might. The result: A ball that would end up a few feet away from the black fence. He killed it past the green fence, which was all that was needed to drive in him and Alex. It was a huge celebration, with a huge party at home plate. It was so bad, that next time, the other coach threw a pitchout. Danny, and "Smitty" each had a Inside the park Homeruns. After the first, the score was 6-0, a "Three and Out" inning by the Cubs. Instead of doing it in order, lets just skip to it. Two pitchouts were thrown to Austin his next AB after his homer. One of them, however, was straight down the middle (probably would've been his second homerun) but the catcher scooted up, thinking that he wouldn't swing. The result, the catchers glove flying ten feet away, without catcher interference, and the opposing coach saying "He stepped out of the box." Both calls were so bad whenb I watched them, the first time, I said "You gotta be kidding!" Second time ,I nearly was on the verge of tears (just kidding) but it was very open with interference. After the inning, I went to the ump saying, "If it's catcher interference, doesn't the batter get his base?" She answered, "Oh, I didn't see it, it wasn't interference." Anyway, Big Al and Aiden both hit grounders to the outfield, and our team was just getting hit after hit. Plus, Alex did a phenominal job pitching. The last play of the game, was a wild pitch that rolled off the fence, and went away from Blake playing catcher, and barely flipped it to Alex to secure the shutout. The final score, 16-0. The game balls, respectively went to Austin, for his homer, and Big Al for his two hits, and throwout at second base.

Cubs Come Close Again

Friday night, the Cubs played a hard-fought game against the Cards, but still came up short in the end, 12-7. The first two inning, no team scored even one run (both pitchers were phenomonal). In the third inning, the scoring opened up, and the Cards scored five runs, ending the inning with a 5-0 score. By the end of the fifth inning though, the Cubs had begun a comeback with the score being 7-5. The third out was a strikeout with men on 2nd and 3rd; one more hit would've tied the game at 7. During the sixth inning, sadly, a few perfectly placed hits by the Cards gave them 5 runs, which was enough to close out the game with a score of 12-7. Coach McCorie said after the game,"We lost the game up here [pointing to his head]. Missed steal signals and not keeping your head in the game lost the game for us." The gameball went to Meghan for acting like a true baseball player throughout the entire game. Line drives were hit into the outfield by Danny and Blake, and Austin hit one practically straight up into the outfield. Phillip and Alex both pitched great games, the other team just had good hitters.

Good luck in our next game, Cubs! That pretty much sums up the Cubs gut wrenching loss to the previously winless Mets. The Cubs started off hot with several runs and hits in the first inning. At times the field play was a little shaky, but the Cubs repeatedly made the Mets aggressive runners pay by tagging them out when they tried for too many bases. The first inning ended with a dramatic play at the plate with Alex scrambling for a loose ball, and throwing to Phillip who tagged the runner out at the plate.This play was costly as Phillip injured his thumb and was unable to pitch for the rest of the evening. The Cubs continued to get some hits, but left runners on base at the end of several innings. In what would be the final inning, the Cubs mounted a furious comeback, with Danny, Austin, Nick and Blake all blistering balls into the outfield. In a desperate attempt to put as many runs on the board as possible, Blake stole home to bring the Cubs within two runs. Nick's big hit knocked in Austin to bring the score to 12-11. But it was too little, too late. With the tieing run on third, and the tie-breaking run at the plate, the Cubs went down swinging. The Cardinals coach was spotted in the stands Wednesday night, no doubt scouting for the game on Friday. Good luck Cubs!!!

17-3

Last night, the Cubs faced the clearly best team and defending League Champions Nationals. After a series of fielding errors (which could've shortend the score by about 5-8 runs) and looking at strikes, the Cubs face their first Conference loss with a score of 17-3. We did break a few National Milestones. We had the most amount of runs scored against them all year. Blake, Danny, and Phillip are the only players that have gotten a hit off the starting pitcher all year. Well, can't say we didn't try, but the game could've been much better. If gloves would've been down, swings been made before it was too late, and shoes being tied correctly, the Cubs may've had a better chance. The final score, 17-3 Nationals. It started off with only three batters having a chance in the first inning that would follow a complete dominate pitching performance, only allowing one run all game. The Cubs went up to bat, and got the first pitch back to the infield, where Blake scored a single. Soon enough, Phillip and Smitty (Justin) were on base, before Ole Danny sent a rocket to deep centerfield, which ended up as a three run homer. The entire game, there wasn't one moment the game wasn't out-of-hand for the Cubs. Plenty of great at bats (sometimes miss-called by the umpire) and spectacular pitching by Alex, led to a 8-1 victory. Great Job guys, keep up the Good Work!

Cubs Suffer 12-2

It seems as though the Cubs couldn't get hits and walks to home plate. The only RBI's were scored by Blake and Phillip, on a cannon to the left field fence by Danny. The first inning, only one run was allowed, due to an error by Blake during a very short rundown. "That made me feel bad, since we had spent an hour doing that in practice," he said afterward. "It seems like I wasn't expecting it until the ball hit the tip of my glove." However, on a cold picthing night, things started turning up again in the third and fourth inning. The fielding, tuned up on a breath-taking double play, one of the best fielding that was seen all night by the Cubs. The man was thrown out at first, then the picther went all the way from the mound, to home plate, as a Philly was rounding third. Just before he was home, the glove smacked him, causing a quick double play. The next half-inning, Danny hit the hardest cannon of the year, belting it into deep left field, having two runs score with a triple. That moment was the only time the Cubs saw home plate, as many runners were left on base leading to a 12-2 blowout. The game was still a Non-Conference game, not going against our seeding in the playoffs, but our overall record. Friday night, we take the field to face the Marlins. Great Luck!
Blake

Cubs Come Short to Phillies 11-8

After a hard fought game, and a almost miracle comeback, it didn't seem that the Cubs had most of the control over the game. After twenty-eight at bats, only three hits were made for contact, and were ten base on balls. In the third inning, a home-runer sent the Phillies to a 10-0 lead. Soon, the Cubs pitching caught on fire, only allowing one more run the entire game. The batting also continued to improve. With just a minute left in the time limit, the next inning was called, the Cubs trailing by a score of 11-6. It gave two more runs, but wasn't good enough as the Cubs couldn't pull it out, 11-8. Gameballs were handed out to Phillip, on his outstanding baserunning and sliding in a at first (tie goes to runner) second, and third base. The other, went to Alberto, for having a Behind-the-Back pop fly catch, looking almopst directly into the sun. Great job guys! Our next game is also against the Phillies, Wednesday at 6:30.
